An Email from an American Soldier

I got this email from Roger Gonzalez, an American soldier stationed overseas. He’s allowing me to print it with his email address, so if anybody wants to email him you’re more than welcome to. As for me, as I’ve already told Roger I have a lot of respect for what people like him are doing and getting an email from somebody like this is very uplifting to me.

To John Canton
I don’t know if you remember a few years back in 2007, I wrote from the sunny sands of Baghdad just to comment on how I loved your writings and reports on all things that were going in wrestling. Thank you kindly for responding. I do appreciate that acknowledgment.

I felt compelled to write you again about what you wrote on “Why Do We Like Wrestling?” Everything that you wrote is so true for me. In addition, for me, I’m deployed…..AGAIN. This time in Qatar. I mean I’m not getting shot at but it’s still away from home and family and friends. For me I watch RAW and Smackdown every week. For me, those two hours during the week takes me away from the battlefield mindset and I remember what I truly love and enjoyed. It takes me away from the pressures where I’m at and brings me back to tranquility and peace. That’s what it does for me. I said the same thing to Michael Cole, Lillian Garcia, and your future ex-wife Mickie James-Canton (Gonzalez) when they went to Iraq for the Tribute to the Troops in 2008 (I was fortunate enough to be there for 2005, 2007, and 2008 Tributes, both as a fan and a ring set up crew member). Anyways, again after all these years of reading your columns and RAJAHWWF (since 1999), thank you for taking me away and remembering why we are wrestling fans.

Sincerely
Roger Gonzalez

Thanks Roger. That’s awesome. I don’t even mind how did that (Gonzalez) thing either. You can do that. Nobody else can, though!
