Random Monday: The Rock, TNA Genesis, Pre-Raw, NFL, 24

January 18, 2010 6 comments

This will be brief by my standards. I worked from 7am-3pm, I’m tired and ready to take a nap before watching 24, Raw and writing about Raw immediately after watching it. I wanted to cover a few things before Raw came on this evening. If you haven’t seen the first two hours of 24 yet and you don’t want spoilers I’ll warn you that it’s the last part of this post.

– Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, star of that awful looking Tooth Fairy movie, has publicly said he’s looking to get back into WWE this summer when his movie schedule allows. In an article with the Toronto sun, he says: “The plan was for me to be the (Monday Night RAW) host (Jan. 11). But then I had to go to Mexico (to promote the movie). The idea of me going back to WWE is intriguing and exciting. I grew up in the business. Will I go back? Absolutely. The goal is to go back and do something special. I talked to Vince (McMahon) a couple of months ago and we’re trying to come up with something. “After I wrap (filming of action movie) Faster, maybe in the summer I can go back.”

I’m a huge fan of the man and I think he’s one of the greatest representatives of the business. I think, despite all the money he’s made in movies, he misses performing in front of the live crowd. It will be great to see him back in WWE in the summer whether it’s for a match (Cena’s a possibility obviously) or just to appear a few times. Any Rock on WWE TV is a good thing. The man is an amazing showman. The link is: here.

Top 5 Movies & TV Shows of the 2000s (Drama/Comedy)

December 27, 2009 24 comments

I write about wrestling and sports obviously. Wrestling is the main thing I write about on this blog and it will continue to be. However, with the decade winding down I thought it would be cool to look back on the best of the decade in movies and TV. I nearly went into film school out of high school, but decided against it. I did take some university level film classes out of curiosity more than anything. It helped me appreciate film more, that’s for sure.

Here are my top five dramatic and comedic movies of the 2000s as well as my top five dramatic and comedic TV series of the 2000s. If you don’t like spoilers for stuff then leave. I’m writing about stuff that took place over the course of a decade. It’s not like you haven’t had time to see this stuff.

Top 5 Movies of the 2000s – Drama

It was a decent decade for movie dramas. I liked the 90s more (Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty) while the 80s gave me my favorite drama ever (Goodfellas) and the 70s of course had the two Godfather films. I don’t know if any of these will crack my top ten all-time, but I still liked them a bunch.

1. No Country For Old Men (2007) – One of those movies that when you watch the first you realize it’s really good, but when you watch it a few times you see just how smart it is. Great dialogue, strong acting and a simple story that they pull off really well. I absolutely love the main heel character, Anton. What a cold hearted killer.

My Favorite Christmas Films, TV and Music

December 23, 2009 16 comments

I can’t be all wrestling and football. I need to expand a bit. Every year at Christmas time I go through the same routine as far as what movies or TV shows I watch as well as my listing of favorite songs. I figured I might as well share that here and see what you guys tend to watch.

Movies:
A Christmas Story – It’s on as I’m writing this. Is it wrong that I cheer for Ralphie when the scene comes with him beating the crap out of the bully that tortures him? It’s one of the greatest babyface moments in the history of movies, right? At least for Christmas movies.

Home Alone – I watch this one with my three nephews and niece every year. We watched it a couple of nights ago. The movie was one of the first ones I ever saw in the theatre when it came out (I was 9 years old) and I still find it to be pretty funny to see a kid outsmart the burglars the way Kevin did.

Billy Dee Williams Tiger Woods Collectible Plates (You Tube)

December 11, 2009 3 comments

This is awesome. Billy Dee rocks. And I love the Tiger jokes. A good female friend of mine told me the other day that I was a jerk for laughing so much at Tiger’s situation. Hey, I’m not the one that cheated on his wife with nearly a dozen women! I’m innocent! Anyway, enjoy the video. It’s good for a laugh.
