February 22, 2015 8 comments

It’s WWE Fastlane tonight. This is the temporary home of TJRWrestling. We will have a new site up and running within a few days. Thanks for hanging in there. It’s a bit of a pain to start fresh, but it had to be done. In the long term it will be for the best.

TJRWrestling WWE Fastlane 2015 Preview

February 21, 2015 5 comments

This site is the temporary home for TJRWrestling. Due to some problems with the old hosts, a change was necessary. A new site should be ready soon. For now posts will go here. This was my old blog site from five years ago. It still works, so let’s roll with it.

John: The 2015 Fastlane PPV takes place this Sunday night in Memphis, Tennessee as the road to WrestleMania 31 truly rolls on. When WWE originally announced the PPV it seemed like they were going with Fast Lane as the spelling, but now they’re going with Fastlane so we’ll roll with that too.

The John Report: The Raw Deal for 02/15/10 (Cena/HHH)

February 16, 2010 43 comments

Live from Des Moines, Iowa this is the Raw Deal…

NOTE: If you’re looking for the always funny Commentfest you can check it out by clicking RIGHT HERE and I hope it makes you laugh. I thought it was one of the better ones we’ve ever done.

They had a local Iowa teenage girl sing the national anthem in honor of President’s Day. She did a great job.

Sheamus d. Randy Orton via DQ (*1/2)
Much like at the Rumble, Orton was cheered. The crowd was hot for him, chanting “RKO” at points and basically hating anything Sheamus did. Orton didn’t really work like the babyface as he was on offense for much of it doing his stomp routine, but the crowd was still supporting him. They never really went into the finishing sequence. Sheamus got attacked by Ted and then when Cody went after him the ref saw it and DQ’d Orton just like at the Rumble. Post match, Orton dropped Rhodes with the RKO (fans chanted for it) Sheamus booted Ted and then Orton hit the RKO on Sheamus to stand tall at the end of it. I thought it was a well done segment.

Retro TJR: The Untouchable One

February 8, 2010 10 comments

I wrote this column on July 22, 2003. It’s comparing John Cena (who was less than a year into his rapper gimmick) to The Rock. I’m not going to edit anything I said then. I think it’s an interesting read now. Times have certainly changed, though.

————

There have been a lot of times in the past where wrestling fans have labeled a young wrestler to be the “next” something. Whether it’s calling Chris Benoit “the next Dynamite Kid” or Chris Jericho “the next Shawn Michaels” it is something that has existed for as long as I can remember. Normally I try to avoid the comparisons to legends. Lately, though, I found somebody that compares favorably to one of the best wrestlers of this era. That doesn’t make him the “next one,” but it allows me to see just how similar these two are.

Who is this man? John Cena. Who does he remind me of? The Rock.

Royal Rumble Prediction Poll: The Royal Rumble Match – VOTE!

January 24, 2010 26 comments

This is the first of a series of polls I’ll be running all week for the five matches at the Royal Rumble. The poll is at the bottom of this post. Two on Sunday. Three on Monday.

It’s pretty self explanatory. Do I need to really go over the rules of the Rumble match or do we know? I think we know. The winner gets a title shot at WrestleMania, unless they do the stupid thing they did two years ago and give the title shot at No Way Out (now known as Elimination Chamber). Please don’t do that again. I think they learned their lesson last year. Orton won the Rumble and then he beat Shane McMahon at No Way Out before losing to HHH at WrestleMania. Then he got more title shots because…well…that feud sucked.

Who’s going to win? Will it be one of the obvious choices with one of three babyfaces from Raw or maybe a less obvious choice with one of the three heels from Smackdown? Could a midcarder break through for the win? Lots of options. Good star power in the match too. I love the Rumble.

The poll is below. Pick the winner and enjoy the discussion that I’m sure will be heated.

The Raw Commentfest for 01/11/10

January 12, 2010 19 comments

I wrote the Raw Deal late last night, posted it at about 2am and you can read that on the blog. The link is at the right. I didn’t have time to do Commentfest in the same night, so it gets its own exclusive post here on the blog. This will be my permanent routine now. It’s easier for me this way.

Also, don’t forget to sign the petition if you haven’t already. That link is here. We’re almost at 500, which is pretty cool. Now, let’s get to the Festival of Comments with a special bonus at the end!

News & Notes: Rumored WM26 Lineup

January 1, 2010 16 comments

I hope everybody reading this had a safe New Year’s celebration. What better way to start out the new year than with some rumors on what might be happening at WrestleMania 26 in three months? This comes from the Figure Four Weekly and the Wrestling Observer newsletters. Both newsletters are the best in the business and they have sources within the wrestling business. Keep in mind these are all just rumors that I’m going to be writing about. Nothing is set in stone. Ideas change all the time. Last year at WrestleMania they had John Cena penciled in against Batista until Batista got hurt. Then they had Cena vs. Hogan in there until Hogan hurt his back (according to Hogan, who is known to BS). They ended up sticking Cena in a triple threat with Edge and Show a year after he had a triple threat with Orton and HHH. Between now and March things will happen like injuries, not to mention opinions changing. Vince McMahon is notorious for changing up plans at the last minute.

The encouraging thing going into this year is that they apparently realize that the best way to book WrestleMania is to go from WM26 and work backwards. Last year they didn’t have the same approach, which is why the build for some of the matches was just average. They apparently have a tentative lineup in mind with the big matches set. Here are the rumored big matches:

– For John Cena, they are trying to get The Rock to come in to face him. If you’ll recall, Rock has made comments about possibly working with WWE again in some capacity. It could mean a match. They can shoot an angle with him as a guest host in March (heavily rumored that he will host a Raw in March because he might have free time) and have the match in March. Obviously WWE wants this to happen. It’s up to Rock more than anything. Me? I’d pay Rock whatever he wants, even something like $5 million for one match, because he’s going to make the money back for sure.
