February 22, 2015 8 comments

It’s WWE Fastlane tonight. This is the temporary home of TJRWrestling. We will have a new site up and running within a few days. Thanks for hanging in there. It’s a bit of a pain to start fresh, but it had to be done. In the long term it will be for the best.

The John Report: Respecting The Game

March 1, 2010 94 comments

“It’s not an easy life. Careers are short, careers are fast. I’m not that tough, I’m no tougher than anybody else in our business, but I respect our business. I love our business. I put my life on the line every day for our business and I gladly do it. And I will continue to do it until I can do it no longer. You have to earn respect in the business. It’s not given to you. You earn it.” – Triple H talking about the wrestling business to Tough Enough students during season one.

When you think about World Wrestling Entertainment over the last 15 years one of the first names that will pop in your mind is that of Hunter Hearst Helmsley or Triple H. The Game. The Cerebral Assassin. The King of Kings. Pick a name, you know who it is. There’s a good chance you have a strong opinion on him too. He’s been in WWE’s main event for over ten years now. At the past ten WrestleMania’s, he’s wrestled in the WWE or World Title match eight times and one of those times was due to injury. Some think he’s a great company guy while others think he’s selfish. Some think he’s still got it while others think he’s overrated. Either way, HHH is the kind of guy that draws attention good or bad among fans of all kind. In my decade of writing online, there’s no person in WWE that can either be as loved as he is by one side or as criticized as he is by the other side.

The John Report: The Raw Deal for 02/15/10 (Cena/HHH)

February 16, 2010 43 comments

Live from Des Moines, Iowa this is the Raw Deal…

NOTE: If you’re looking for the always funny Commentfest you can check it out by clicking RIGHT HERE and I hope it makes you laugh. I thought it was one of the better ones we’ve ever done.

They had a local Iowa teenage girl sing the national anthem in honor of President’s Day. She did a great job.

Sheamus d. Randy Orton via DQ (*1/2)
Much like at the Rumble, Orton was cheered. The crowd was hot for him, chanting “RKO” at points and basically hating anything Sheamus did. Orton didn’t really work like the babyface as he was on offense for much of it doing his stomp routine, but the crowd was still supporting him. They never really went into the finishing sequence. Sheamus got attacked by Ted and then when Cody went after him the ref saw it and DQ’d Orton just like at the Rumble. Post match, Orton dropped Rhodes with the RKO (fans chanted for it) Sheamus booted Ted and then Orton hit the RKO on Sheamus to stand tall at the end of it. I thought it was a well done segment.

A Royal Rumble Preview & Poll Results

January 27, 2010 36 comments

This will be pretty basic. I’ll give you my picks for the matches at the Royal Rumble and also share the results of the polls that I’ve had up for the past three days regarding the five matches at the Sunday PPV.

Before I start, just want to say the last four days have produced the highest number of page views in the three month history of this blog. The last two days passed January 5th (the night after WWE vs. TNA) as the most page views for my blog. You guys are great. I appreciate the support. I’m slowly assembling a team to put out some writing of their own as well adding in some news items in some kind of daily update. I want this to be a place for readers to check out every day. Slowly, we’ll get there I think. As a thank you, at the end of this Rumble preview I’ll let you know who I talk to in WWE. Now, onto some predictions:

The 30 Royal Rumble Match featuring six guys that might win and everybody else
The poll results: Shawn Michaels 38%, Triple H 12%, Chris Jericho 9%, Edge 7%, Ted Dibiase 6% and John Morrison 6%. Some of the write in votes were for Michael Cole (with two), John Canton (thank you to whoever did that) and Hornswoggle (thanks for voting, Vince McMahon).

The John Report: Rumbling to WrestleMania 26

January 25, 2010 21 comments

It’s that time of year again in World Wrestling Entertainment. The new year is here, the wrestlers are refreshed with an eye towards the granddaddy of them all, the writing team’s ideas are in place (or so we hope) and the push to the year’s best two events begin. I’m talking about the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. In between those is the newly named WWE Elimination Chamber PPV (see ya No Way Out), which has produced good PPVs the last couple of years. I think we all know that the first three months of the calendar year tend to the best in WWE. The first Raw of the year on January 4th featured the return, after 12 years, of Bret Hart to a huge response from wrestling fans. It did good ratings and created a lot of buzz too. I think WWE should be excited about these next few months because, despite the lack of quality on Raw on a weekly basis, they should be heading into WrestleMania with a lot of positive hype on their side.

This column will look at the two current World Champions, the other titles in the company and also focus in on the Royal Rumble match. Then at the end I’ll try to wrap it up in a nice little bow with some of the matches that I think we will be seeing at WrestleMania 26 this year in Phoenix.

Royal Rumble Prediction Poll: The Royal Rumble Match – VOTE!

January 24, 2010 26 comments

This is the first of a series of polls I’ll be running all week for the five matches at the Royal Rumble. The poll is at the bottom of this post. Two on Sunday. Three on Monday.

It’s pretty self explanatory. Do I need to really go over the rules of the Rumble match or do we know? I think we know. The winner gets a title shot at WrestleMania, unless they do the stupid thing they did two years ago and give the title shot at No Way Out (now known as Elimination Chamber). Please don’t do that again. I think they learned their lesson last year. Orton won the Rumble and then he beat Shane McMahon at No Way Out before losing to HHH at WrestleMania. Then he got more title shots because…well…that feud sucked.

Who’s going to win? Will it be one of the obvious choices with one of three babyfaces from Raw or maybe a less obvious choice with one of the three heels from Smackdown? Could a midcarder break through for the win? Lots of options. Good star power in the match too. I love the Rumble.

The poll is below. Pick the winner and enjoy the discussion that I’m sure will be heated.

The John Report: The Raw Deal for 01/18/10 (“The Flame”)

Welcome to the Raw Deal. Commentfest to be added in the AM.
————–

Live from Knoxville, Tennessee this is the Raw Deal…
(No banner here. There’s one for Commentfest and one at the very end that I think you’ll like.)

I usually go from the start of the show to the finish. This week, because the end of the show disappointed me so much I ended up writing the main event and my post show rant first, so these other parts are going to be shorter because of that. Makes sense? I don’t know. Does Raw make sense? Not usually. Let’s get to it.

Crazy Old Man Vince, The Undertaker Works Monday & HBK
Vinny Mac comes out ranting about Bret Hart. He’s basically saying he’s coming back on Raw again. We won’t say when, but keep watching because it could be anytime. I thought it was this week. Guess not. Undertaker comes out. He looks pissed that he has to work more than one day a week. He tells Vince that he was there 12 years ago in Montreal and that he screwed Bret. You go, girl. I mean man. Deadman. Anyway, Vince leaves and out comes Michaels. Undertaker says he has nothing to prove to Shawn since he beat him, so he won’t accept his match at WrestleMania. He says, how about tonight? Shawn says no, he wants it at Mania. Undertaker says fine, win the Rumble and you can get me at Mania because I’ll still be champion. Shawn says I guess I’ll do that. Undertaker says fine. Shawn says swell. Undertaker says okay. Shawn says alright. Undertaker says let’s make a deal to take the summer off after the Mania match again without giving an explanation? Shawn agrees to that too. They’re very agreeable. I don’t want to claim 100% accuracy in my recap of this, but I’d say I was close.
